Frequently Asked Questions
How are we different from other schools? |
As Catholics we are called to serve God and help those in need. Community Service plays an important part in our daily lives at school and at home. As a school community, we participate in many local and national service programs to help others who suffer from hardship, natural disasters, and poverty. We also work throughout our local community to help feed the hungry, provide supplies to the homeless, school supplies to children in need, and show our support our local police, firefighters, and emergency personnel. We know that you will recognize our students in or out of uniform as they strive to demonstrate a positive, christian example in all that they do. |

| How do the academics at St. Martha compare to other schools? |
Our curriculum is based on a combination of Diocesan Guidelines and the Sunshine State Standards. While the Diocesan Guidelines are more stringent than the Sunshine State standards in most cases we work hard to ensure that we are meeting or exceeding both sets of standards. The Diocesan Guidelines are developed in cooperation with Catholic Schools nationally, so we also compare ourselves to other Catholic schools across the nation. We do not administer the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) but instead provide our students with the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in order to compare our students progress from year to year as well as compare our results to other Catholic schools nationwide - not just Florida. Our school continues to score in the top 20% of all schools nationally on these tests. Most grades score in the top 10% and these results continue to improve. |

| Are parents welcome to participate in activities at St. Martha? |
We believe that parents are the primary educators of their children. Our school is here to aid you in that process. Without parental involvement, our program would not be a success. We strongly encourage our parents to be actively involved in your child's studies and school activities. We have a strong Parent Association that provides you with many volunteer opportunties and ways to become more involved with school programs. We encourage parents to come to school and have lunch with your children on occasion. Families are always invited to attend mass and special events. Parents are definitely welcome at St. Martha. |
